What to do while you wait
A few minutes of the right action can be the difference between a repair and a renovation.
- Shut off the water at the main valve, usually where the water service enters the building
- For a leaking water heater, shut its water supply and turn the gas control off
- Switch off electricity to any area where water is near outlets or panels
- Move what you can out of the way and contain the water if it is safe to do so
- If you smell gas, leave the building first and call 911 and your gas utility
- Take photos for your insurance before anything is cleaned up

Yes. Emergency plumbing is not much use at office hours only. We answer (617) 771-9820 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays.
How quickly can you get here?
It depends on where you are within our service area and what is already running. We will give you a realistic window on the phone rather than leaving you waiting and guessing.
Where is my main water shut-off?
Usually in the basement or a utility area, where the water service comes in through the wall or floor, often near the meter. It is worth finding it now, before you need it in a hurry.
I smell gas. Should I call you first?
No. Leave the building first. Do not use light switches or your phone inside. From outside, call 911 and your gas utility's emergency line. Call us once the property is safe and we will repair the gas piping.
